Can’t say I am happy in any way with this company. Muth was hired to install a few outlets in the garage, as a different electric company was hired to do so, decided not to, and expected to be paid for this nonexistent labor (the last name of the owner of this other company may or may not rhyme with Swanson). Before the employee, Tre Henderson, left, I asked him to swap out a standard outlet in the laundry room with a GFCI outlet, since that is code and Muth messed with the circuit that the outlet was attached to. He seemed to think that the NEC (National Electric Code; basically the Bible for electricians in this country) only required GFCI outlets for the outlet the washing machine was connected to, so I almost had to beg him to swap it out. The NEC is pretty clear that laundry areas should have outlets protected by GFCI, and Tre Henderson is required by law to be competent regarding the contents of NEC. Several days after this work was done, I was told that one of the outlets that Tre had installed wasn’t NEC compliant, and would have to be removed. While this outlet was being removed, it was noticed that the laundry outlet and this new outlet had no ground wire connected to them. Later, it was noticed that every other outlet that Muth had touched was not code-compliant. Eventually, it was discovered that Muth had connected a wire clearly labelled 14AWG to a 20 Amp circuit breaker, which is extremely dangerous and one of the first things that any electrical apprentice should know not to do, well before any work is done by the apprentice. Literally everything that Tre had done was done improperly. Worse still, when the bill arrived, it showed an hourly labor rate of $75, even though we were told that the rate was $70. Of course, since the work was done illegally, it would be legally dubious to pay for the labor. Muth was notified that we would not be able to pay for the labor on this project. The manager, Dave, appeared to be mildly concerned that sub-par work came from Muth, but didn’t see any reason to be concerned that Muth had hired an illegal. He claimed that Tre had worked on numerous other jobs and he had seen no issues with Tre’s work, but he had no explanation for how Tre had managed to mess up this massively on this project. While Muth should’ve been extremely happy that they were given very inexpensive and serious insight into their employees, they are continuing to send invoices as if this project was done correctly by Muth. It is a waste of paper and is extremely disrespectful. I would advise caution when hiring any contractor, especially one that could burn a house down such as an electrician, but I have absolutely no faith in the Huron branch of Muth Electric. I'm attaching one picture of the work that was done, that any layperson should be able to see the issue with. However, there were many more issues that Muth had with the project that should've been very simple.
