B&W did a great job installing an EV charger in in our garage, which involved trenching and laying underground wire from the house to the detached garage. Stephen and his assistant were very professional and polite. I highly recommend them.

On 12/9 I scheduled an estimate to be performed on 12/17. I had hoped they could get someone out here sooner, but 8 days after the initial call was the first they could schedule. I explained the work I was hoping to have performed in my initial phone call so that they had a strong idea of what I was having estimated. The afternoon of the scheduled estimate, they rescheduled for 12/20, today. What was my goal? I have a detached garage that is already wired for electricity. I want to install a wall mounted garage heater so that I can work in their in the winter time. I found a very nice 240 amp heater that I am hoping to install. In fact, there was a miter saw left behind by the last owner. So I suspect the garage could handle the electricity, but I wanted to make sure. The garage is literally probably 20-30 feet from the corner of my home that has the breaker box attached to the outsides of the house. The electrician that was sent to provide the estimate spent no more than, and I mean very seriously not one minute over, 5 mins looking at my garage and the breaker box. In reality, I think 5 minutes is extremely generous. After I explained what I was trying to do, the electrician balked, asked me how much I’m trying spend, and then left. He told me he was going to drum up the estimate in his truck, and he indicated he was going to email me the estimate before leaving my house. I even confirmed my email address with the electrician before we parted ways. I never received the estimate, but I did receive a text requesting this google review. In short, it took B&W 11 days to visit my house for an estimate which required less than, literally less than, five minutes. As for the estimate, I didn’t actually receive one, probably because the electrician doesn’t want to do the job. I am uncertain if B&W is just too busy for residential work, but I struggle to understand why they would schedule an estimate if they don’t want to perform the work. I called New Electric, a competitor just a few minutes down Hampden from B&W Electric, after the unsatisfactory experience with B&W around 4 p.m. this afternoon, and I was able to schedule an estimate for tomorrow, 12/21. New Electric’s office is also open 24hrs. Best of luck to those who read this. Finding a good electrician is proving to be a real challenge.

Phillip, Thank you for your honest feedback. I apologize for your experience with B&W Electric. I did look into this matter and I want to extend my apologies for the scheduling. We are working to meet customer requests for estimates and work within a week. We offer online/zoom estimates for small projects for those comfortable with that format. We would have been happy to do your estimate online and would have been much sooner. Thank you for explaining your project in detail on your initial phone call. This definitely helps us make more efficient use of your time. We knew ahead of time that your 7500w heater would need a minimum of a 40 amp circuit breaker and #8 AWG cu conductors. Stephen did take pictures inside and outside of your project. He gave you the option of adding a sub-panel at the garage for slightly more than the heater circuit, but you told him that you rented the house and did not want to pay for upgrades to the property. That is totally understandable. Phillip, the garage did not have enough power for the heater and your heater will pull much more power than the miter saw. This was explained to you during your estimate. At that time Stephen gave you some options that would be more cost effective and you would not need an electrician. Phillip, our primary goal is to find the best value for our customers even when it means we talk ourselves out of the work. I am sorry that you felt you were treated in a dismissive manner. Stephen is very good with customers and I am sure he did not mean to come off that way. After speaking with him, I understand that he was only trying to save you money. By telling you that a space heater would be sufficient for the small garage you wanted to heat and that you already had a receptacle that you could plug into, he was trying to save you money rather than dismiss you. Phillip, it is not our policy to promise an estimate before leaving one's house. I apologize for this misunderstanding. He visited you around 3:30 pm and checking our system you received your estimate by 6:06 pm on the same day. Phillip it does take some time to get accurate material quotes from our suppliers so that we can pass any savings onto our customers. It is our policy to get most estimates out to our customers the same day for projects of this size and I think we met that goal with this one. Thank you for confirming on the follow up phone call that you did receive the estimate after you wrote this review. We value our residential customers as much as our commercial and industrial customers. We also want to find all of our customers the best value. We wish you the best on this project. I am once again sorry for your experience with B&W Electric. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We are addressing getting jobs scheduled in under a week from estimate to work and we are sorry for your frustration.
