I contacted Burly Girl for a bid on replacing a pair of older electric panels at a rental duplex. After my tenants and I arranged schedules to accommodate them - the person who showed up to gather info didn’t even look at the panels she was supposed to bid on (located inside each of the units.) Apparently she looked at some things outside -the meters, the service coming in, perhaps main switches in the exterior wall? one tenant says he even let her know the panel she was supposed to look at was inside his place, but she brushed him off. A week later, i got a call and this person (don’t recall her name) asked me to send her pics of one the panels so she could make an actual bid. Ok - whatev. People make mistakes, so I did. When it finally arrived, the bid to replace the panels was woefully short of details (what kind of panel? Does it include breakers?), but offered a steep price tag of $4k. Also attached to this email was an additional, normal, detailed bid for a big system upgrade i didn’t ask for (boosting electric service capacity to the units, etc). Estimated cost: $6k-10k. The failure to do what they agreed to go out and do made me apprehensive. Sending a serious bid only for a job I didn’t ask for further added to my skepticism. But what really sticks in my craw is they sent me a $69 bill for going out and gathering info for their bid. I’d agreed to a fee upfront with the idea theyd be bidding on my panels - not trying to upsell me a big project. given that only half of an inspection was done (the half primarily related to the unwanted project proposal), that I spent time arranging this inspection around tenants’ schedules for naught and then had to go rustle up the pics they should have gotten when they went out - I suggested we split the difference. Anna - who I talked to about this - bristled at the suggestion. They put a lot of time into their bids, she says. Make of this what you will.

Craig, Seems like things unfolded in a way that left you with the wrong impression of us. We put our heart and soul into what we do, and taking excellent care of our customers. It’s unfortunate that it didn’t land that way for you. Since our scheduler is not an electrician, we always request that the customer be available at the time of the first appointment to make sure that we all have the opportunity to communicate clearly about the scope of the project that we are to look at. You were told at the time of scheduling that there would be a $69 Service Fee for us to come out, which is usually paid by the customer on site the day of the appointment. Since you weren’t there, we billed you after the fact. It was communicated to us that we were not to communicate about the job with the tenants. When I called to check in with you about the scope of the project, I was more than willing to go out there again at no extra charge to look again, but you volunteered that you already had pictures of the panels that you could text to us right away, so that we wouldn’t have to bother the tenants. Usually when we meet the customer for the initial visit we go over all of our pricing and show them our pricing book which everything comes out of. All of the information you received would've made sense if we had the opportunity to talk to you face to face. You were told that all labor and materials are included in all of our pricing, and we happily talked to you on the phone and answered all of your questions. During this call, it was explained several times that there would be no increase of capacity to either of the units, nor was there an increase in capacity to the main panel. All pricing was for replacement, like for like. You were offered pricing on all three panels, because they were all Zinsco’s and therefore dangerous. All of the items on the proposal can be accepted individually of each other. You were also offered a $2,000 discount (one whole subpanel replacement) if you chose to do all three panels. I understand if we are out of your price range. We wish you all the best in remedying your electrical issues. Sincerely, Burly Girl Electric

The Burly Girl team is excellent. We had recessed lighting installed (wafer lights), our panel replaced and a vent installed in our bathroom. They communicated very well and always did what they said they were going to. We scheduled an appointment for an estimate, they were on time and generated an estimate within a couple of days. We were able to schedule the work within a few weeks and they were here on the days they scheduled and the work was completed properly and on time! Amazing!

I had very high hopes because we were ready to have electrical work done in both our homes. I could never get a call back to find out how good they could be. 🤷♀️

Hi DeAnna, I apologize that you had this experience. I have gone back through all of my voice mail messages and was unable to find a message from you. I'm not sure where the disconnect was, however I am more than happy to chat with you around your electrical needs. You can reach me at the main office number 209-782-0269.
