It has been ten years since they built our home. I still continue to find poor craftsmanship and shoddy work. The latest is the master bath, they miss calculated where the cabinet and sink where to be placed so the water and drain did not line up. Rather than move the lines they sawed the drawer down. They didn't even do that right as the drawer hit the shut off valve causing it to leak at the compression fitting. Slow leak waS not discovered until the cabinet was ruined. Other issues: 1. The HVAC unit was to be in the crawl space they convinced me to have put in in order to have more space in the laundry room. When they where done it is in the laundry room and takes up 20% of the space. 2.i specifcally asked for outside spikets on the front and the back of the house. Luckily i stop by when the plumber was working because there where no spikets on the plan. Being the house was framed, he could only put one in the back and right next to the door. 3. The electrical supply was run in right next to the back door which looks very tacky, even though I asked that it be run underground into the crawl space. They did have a pipe to run the wires in put they framed the house before they had the wires run so they had to run the wire in from outside. 4. The outside light fixtures where done with "add on" boxes and stuck out 3 inches because they did not thick to put the junction boxes in the wall before the sheeting and siding was installed 5. The kitchen sink fell from the cabinet because they used glue to mount the sink to the granite countertop. These are items I can think of but there were more Bear in mind the house was supposed to be completed in early May and was not finished until June. The only thing that done well is the the framing which was done by Wausau. That is the only reason for two stars. The work cousins did was slip shot at best.
Response from the owner
Sorry to hear you are not pleased with your place any more Mark. We don’t have all your paperwork still but we have some relating to your vanity cabinet that may help explain. 1. There was a change order for the cabinetry. It doesn’t list specifically what the change order was but could it have been related? 2. Recessed medicine cabinets were added. The wall piping might have been shifted over to allow you to have them and the vanity cabinet drawer was altered to make it work for you. Regardless of the reason for the piping location, I am confident our team would have considered plenty of clearance to the plumbing below. We would recommend checking all supply lines as part of routine home maintenance. 1. The crawlspace room was a requested by you for storm protection. We incorporated the crawlspace with your goal in mind and hoped to possibly use the space for some utilities. My guess is that the building’s heating and cooling requirements prevented a smaller unit from being installed in the crawlspace. Regarding the overall available space in the laundry/mudroom… That space was initially a covered porch on the original floor plan. It was changed to the mudroom and laundry to fit your needs at the time. Is it possible your needs for the room changed from 10 years ago? Even so, an extension of that room may not have even been possible due to the existing driveway and existing detached garage. 2. We always install at least 2 exterior faucets. The fact that they were included may not have been apparent because not all plumbing notations are on the framing plan. It sounds like our team probably just didn’t explain that your interior layout prevented the faucets from being installed where you wanted. I can explain. Not every preferred location is a viable one. A viable location for an exterior faucet requires an interior wall that is perpendicular to the exterior wall. Having a faucet on the front of your home would have required a faucet stem to stick 3 to 5 inches into the finished room of your great room or master bedroom. That means a ¾ pipe sticking through the drywall and a waterline going back into the wall. For most home owners the interior layout takes priority over possible exterior faucet locations. 3. I am not an electrician but the install seemed fairly standard. The electric service line was already on site for the old cabin and I wonder if that had something to do with it? 4. Not sure about the light fixture box comment. Sheathing is easily cut out so that seems like a silly excuse to mount in the manner you described. This concern wasn’t brought up during your 6 month and 1 year follow-up with you. Is it possible something changed since then? For example, installation of new fixtures that made the depth of the box more apparent. If so, you may want to consider also replacing the box with one that works with the new fixture. 5. Cousin’s does not install custom granite countertops. When granite is requested we include an estimate as an allowance. That means the material and installer is chosen by the home owner. I assume you contacted the installer and it was taken care of because I don’t recall being contacted about this issue.
