  I'm renting an rv lot in Glades County for 3 months. I have been using my solar to supplement my power needs. I'm only using grid power for AC and water heater. Got my first electric bill which showed me using 34.95 of kwh in 35 days. They then add a 54.00 charge as base rate. Plus a 75.00 connect fee. After visiting the power office they said the 54.00 charge is the minimum every month whether you use any electric or not. Why was I charged for both when 54.00 is the minimum?

  Mr. Robinson, Our base charge of $45 is to pay for the infrastructure in place to deliver power to you on demand 24/7. That infrastructure has a cost regardless of how much power you consume. Your $34.95 charge for your kwh consumption is for the actual power you consumed beyond what your solar system generated, not for the infrastructure to deliver it.   I pay $300 on average for my electric bill even with managing it on smart timers to turn off all the power when I leave for work. (I used to pay $150 with LCEC without managing my power at the worst.) My power goes out almost daily. If the power goes down for maintenance, we're never notified ahead of time. If I had to work from home, this power company would not be reliable enough to keep me on. Thankfully my network and computers are on UPS systems.

If you contact us at 863-946-6200 to provide account information, we can review your account with you to discuss any recent outages and let you know what steps we have/are taking to address the issue. Regarding your LCEC bill vs. GEC, LCEC serves a more urban area with 27 meters per mile of line versus 6 meters per mile of line at Glades Electric. This means that LCEC has more than 4 times the number of meters per mile to share the burden of infrastructure and maintenance costs. While they are a cooperative, they do not serve a rural, sparsely populated area like our Heartland counties. Also, differences in your home's construction and lot landscaping can possibly account for differences in consumption. We would recommend comparing your energy use (kWh) on your LCEC bills vs. your GEC bills to see if your energy use is significantly different now, instead of just comparing dollars spent.   This by far is the worst company I have ever seen! They charge 400 - 500 per month and not one month have we ever had consistent service! The power is always off. This is ridiculous I’m not sure what we could do as customers however I will be speaking with the commissioner because FPL would never charge or have such poor customer service! Please allow FPL to service Sky Valley!!!!!!!!! The amount of money you spend with this company and cannot even have continued service is absolutely insane! If I could rate negative zero it would be!
