To the Brotherhood, A few short years after retiring my wife noticed I was not able to turn my head normally. I experienced a few sessions with a chiropractor that seemed to help. Shortly thereafter I started experiencing an electrical tingling in the back of my head that would, some times, extend out to my arms and legs. This phenomena would last for but a few seconds, but it would wipe out my short term memory and make speech unintelligible for a minute or so. All other functions were normal.; such as driving a vehicle, walking, etc. This would happen once to four times a day and would last for approximately ten days at a time them go into remission for a month or more. Three different MRI s were done and it was determined that my C-3 vertebra was worn out any rubbing on my spinal cord and this was the problem. Dr Stromberg, of Idaho Falls, attached a titanium plate to my C-3 and C-4 vertebra to stabilize the C-3 to prevent further damage for the spinal cord is non healing. In questioning Dr. Stromberg about this problem he stated that it happened in a lot of professions and the third one he mentioned was electrician and that is why I am writing this epistle in hopes of alerting others in our craft of this potential, life altering phenomena that is called Lhermitte's Sign. I found, in my case, it is triggered whenever I am under stress. There are medications that manage the problem fairly well for there is no cure. I hope this is worth of passing on to alert others.
