Hey don’t believe that A Dozz review he is just telling lies. I hate that people think that it is me. I love the union and would highly recommend it to anyone trying to join this line of work. Also Cesar is really cool guy, and he does try to help you out.

I was an apprentice for about a year and ended up with a small contractor that constantly put me with CE’s (no journeyman) and would grill me about everything done wrong without saying anything to the CE’s. While that sucked, it got worse after one of my classmates at school pointed out I’m supposed to be put under 1 journeyman and that I should ask my foreman who my journeyman was (an instructor confirmed they were correct). My foreman was pretty annoyed, to say the least, about me asking who my journeyman was and then telling him I’m supposed to be under one… yep, terminated a few hours later for something bogus. Tried to talk to one of the organizers (Ceaser) at the hall about it and I would’ve had more success talking to a wall. He comes off as nice but I don’t think he knows what he’s doing. And forget trying to call him or any of them because after trying a couple of extensions (they’re listed on the website but you’ll get an operator error) that didn’t work I gave up. Fortunately, an open shop offered me a position with better pay while I was I trying to deal with the union so I just quit the apprenticeship program and have been happy there ever since. While I may be one of the more extreme or rare cases, I can’t express enough just how disappointed I was at the union for, as far as I could tell, seemingly not bothering to do anything (ceaser said he’d call the contractor but I never heard back) even though a termination as an apprentice can get you in serious trouble at the apprenticeship school regardless of the reason. My time at the school was pretty cool and I learned a lot but if the union doesn't or more likely won't change your discharge from a contractor from a termination to a layoff then it's an automatic committee hearing that you HAVE to physically be there for to defend YOURSELF (as in NO UNION representation present; not that they'd be useful but still...). After my experience with local 20 I imagined a committee meeting would be worse so I just bailed and went open shop. I’m just not willing to pay a working union “service” fee AND have a union deduction from my pay when they blow me off and I can’t even call the person (ceasar) that’s supposed to be “helping” me. I don't do reviews but given how much this impacted my LIFE and ability to grow into a profession. Given my experience, a review of 4.9 stars (as of 2/23/19) is incredibly misplaced and completely undeserved
