God Bless Irene and Area1Jatc!!!! While some discriminated me and said: I will never be an electrician. She was there for me!!!!! She's got the hardest job, it's a fine line between giving someone a second chance and recognizing who Really wants to be an electrician!!!!

I Graduated from this program class of 2019. It is a a test factory that’s it. I passed the test, got my card and went to work for IBEW Local 48. So I guess I can thank JATC for that. Here is the truth of what I experienced over the course of 4 years: My attendance was almost perfect I missed 2 days In 4 years. One day was cause my employer sent me out of town. The other I was In the hospital. I did all my homework that was assigned and attended every lab. Still I was so unprepared for the job with the skills and knowledge I got from the area 1 JATC and my apprenticeship employer. ( Honestly may be my fault. I stayed with one employer the whole 4 years, cause they paid me well above apprenticeship scale till I quit going to their church) don’t be afraid to get different work experience it will help you be a well rounded electrician later on. It’s taken a year for me to come up to speed with the rest of the guys I work with due to my knowledge and past experience or lack there of. JATC had a couple of great teachers (John C.,Jake T.) oh and Chelsea the office gal was awesome too !!!! Unfortunately we had a pile of teachers there just picking up a weekly check. One class We had cycled 3 teachers through In A quarter. Each teacher also changed lesson plans so the transformer/ calculations part of the school was essentially worthless. The labs and facilities are a joke for the amount of money that school takes in. I use the word teacher very loosely here. They use journeyman, company owners and retired tradesman exclusively. Many, many times we were let out of class after a small pop quiz that took 30-40 mins so the “teacher” could go home after a long day of working a reg job. We had a retiree Get let go cause he had no idea that he was doing. He even resorted to giving out the answer key to the quizzes and tests!!!!! Probably a third of the students never did their assignments or homework and resorted to using buddies to pass tests. Guess what I’m getting at is do your homework first. Evaluate all your options. Look into IBEW schools. Heck I’d become a plumber/pipe fitter before I went to this so called school again. If this reaches the desk of the lady who runs the program (I’m not saying names but you know who you are) I know it’s hard for you but try being nice. It will get you a lot more positive results and respect in the future. I hope this didn’t sound spiteful or bitter but nobody told me what to expect when I started this journey, I just hope it may help someone that reads it In the future.
