  A friend recommended Merit after I had a bad experience with another company. My tenant was shocked replacing a lightbulb, and several lights (just worked on by another company three months prior) stopped working. Merit scheduled an estimate a day or two after I called. They told me the breaker was oversized for the wiring, which overheated the wiring and tripped the breaker. They replaced two light fixtures, some burnt wiring, and the breaker. They repaired it that day, and the bill was half what the other company charged me. I will use them next time I need an electrician, and have recommended them to several friends.

  Had electricity hook up done for our new hot tub. Electrical box and wiring priorly installed by previous owner. The electrician complained about having to move it and then stated we could not have a porch light within X amount of feet of our hot tub per code. He took the light down and capped it off. State inspector stated it is against code to not have a back porch light and the electrical cords were not secured (tripping hazard). Merit sent 2 electricians to correct prior work. They charged us for the follow up visit ($400), including a charge to have two electricians on site. When the company was called about the follow up charge they discounted it by $150 and stated they wouldn’t be making money off this job if they didn’t charge us. Assumption a licensed company would know code and if they needed to do follow up we would not be charged for their lack of knowledge.

  Matthew & Sena, We understand your frustration. Merit takes pride in servicing their customers and tries to accommodate their needs to the best of our abilities. Our electrician did inform you the back porch light would have to be GFI protected due to its location near the hot tub. From our records, you decided you did not want to spend the additional funds to do that and the porch light wasn't needed anyway. Our team works hard to keep up with the ever changing electrical codes, but on occasion corrections are needed and we did refund $150.00 in good faith. Sincerely, Merit Electric

  After multiple interactions, would not recommend this company. Certainly are not in it for repeat business. Project large or small, would recommend a different company. Plenty of other electrical companies out there treating customers well.
