  Received a speeding ticket from from Officer P. Maez after going the speed limit. The officer said I was going 15 MPH over the speed limit (complete bologna as I had my speedometer set at the speed limit and I have a new vehicle). Not sure if his gun was broken or if he's just trying to hit a quota, but I had my speedometer checked twice and works great. You follow the law and you apparently get punished for traveling in this county. I would avoid traveling here if at all possible if you have out-of-state license plates. Many South Dakota residents have told me the same thing that they may target out of state visitors. Of course I made efforts to dispute this ticket and called the District Attorney's Office multiple times to dispute the ticket. Zero calls were returned. The police department said they would have the district attorney's office call me and they never did. I was informed by the gal at the front desk at the courthouse that this county does not do any plea deals or work with out of state residents to dispute bogus speeding tickets. After weeks of frustration, I finally paid the speeding ticket with no practical means of traveling back to Niobrara County to fight this ticket as I live out of state. Very disappointed in the county overall.
