As far as power coverage is concerned there are zero issues. When power has been out it’s been restored within a few hours usually. Power does go out here due to high winds and winter weather. I’m docking stars due to their inability to come out to a house and conduct a safety check on trees that are growing in their power lines. I’ve called them about 4 times in the last year to come and simply check it out and the lady I speak with assures me she will get someone out here but no one ever has. Im sure the day the trees cause some form of catastrophe is when they’ll get up and then check it out- probably even say they were never even called about such an impediment.

We've been "members" of this electric cooperative for some 15 years. They provided electricity reliably during that period. They were responsive to our calls. Power failures did occur. They responded, usually restoring power within several hours. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. I'd say "always", but in my last call I was presented with inconsistent facts. Because this is a co-op and not a regular utility company, there are significant differences between the way business is done and the rules governing conduct. Because the coop had residual funds from their annual budget, the coop returns the excess to its members. In the past, they applied your share to the next bill. We moved from Madison County in Sept. 2020 and received a letter stating our share of overage funds was some $60. We called several times and were told a check would be cut when the Board of Directors authorized it, in a short while. This last time I was told they were paying the amounts and it would be about 15 or 20 YEARS. I note that in the past, a credit on the bill was given immediately at the end of the year. Frankly, if they are holding my money "in case something happens and they need the funds" as I was told, they are using my money and should pay interest (for the antivipated 20 years). To me this is at best a questionable business practice. The only reason not to bring a class action or one for conversion and punitative damages is the small amount involved. I have no idea how many people are in my position, nor if they have paid others via a credit on their bills. While the amount here seems too small to go the litigation route, I haven't ultimately decided yet. Logic dictates if they had a budget surplus, they had the cash on hand to pay their debts in a reasonable time. In 20 years, my heirs may be getting that money, if anyone actually does.

When compared to our neighboring power options we could not be more pleased with our rates. The staff members inside have always been incredibly kind to us, frequantly calculating our bill early so that we could plan during energy intense months. So happy to be a part of the coop!
