UPDATE - I revisited Platt and showed the sales person the resealed package and I am glad to say that they accepted the return. Updating the star rating as a result. ------------------------------------------- Buyer Beware! – Yesterday I bought from Platt a large crimping tool for #1 - #8 AWG terminals. It was high priced at $219, but I needed to get a job done so I bought it. However, I did not get the job done because the Greenlee tool simply could not do the job … not even close. The grips are too short to get leverage to make proper crimps. So, I decided to return it. Unfortunately, despite carefully opening the plastic package, then carefully repackaging the brand new un-scuffed tool that was only used for about 2 minutes, I returned it to Platt. The guy behind the counter could not even tell the package had been opened, but when I explained why I was returning it, he said “so you opened it?” Well, “of course, I opened it, but it didn’t work” I replied. He said he could not take it back because it had been opened. So, I offered to pay a 15% restocking fee, but he refused. I then said look, how about refunding 50% … that would be more than fair. He refused. Now I get it that you can’t return a lot of items, especially when using them damages the product through wear and tear. But this was not case. And, as a business owner, I also get that it’s a real challenge because sometimes your margins are razor thin, so every return hits your bottom line. However, you need to back the products you sell; and if they don’t work as advertised, you have to come to a mutually equitable agreement with the customer who honestly and fairly asks for a refund. I guess Platt does not believe in customer service, nor honesty, nor fairness. So, buyer beware.
