Hired this electrician to install an EV charger. Was quoted $750 with the condition they there would only be 10 feet of wire. I called him back a few days later after actually measuring it out because it was actually close to 50 feet of wire needed. I can't remember if he said it was $1 or $2 per foot as that is the cost to purchase the wire (his words). Also offered to prewire for two cars for $200. I asked what that means and was told that he would install a breaker box specifically so I would not have to drill another hole on the inside and the disconnect on the outside. The break box would have room enough for two wires for a second charger. To install a second charger I was told it would be another $150. so I'm thinking $1000 max. On the day he was supposed to install it he was two hours late. He said per code he could not install a breaker box on the inside. The disconnect box on the outside of the house next to the meter would be where the chargers plug into instead. He fused it for 60 amps because I only had one charger. He repeated that all I have two do is pull a wire into that box and upgrade the fuse. When the bill came it was $1325. I asked what would it cost two add a second charger at this point. I was told $300-$400. I then spent the next two weeks trying to get him to produce a receipt. When DTE came to hook up service I asked how many amps is the service setup for. DTE said the electrcian installed 6 gauge wire and would be a maximum around 50 or 60 amps and that the entire meter would have to be rewired if I want 100 amp service for two chargers. So I paid lots of extra money for a quick disconnect with two holes instead of one. I thought I was paying for all the prewiring needed to handle two chargers. Certainly having not to reinstall the disconnect later in order to have a second hole for the second charger helps but this was not what I was told I was paying for. This is also dangerous as he said all I need to do is upgrade the fuse and pull another wire into the box to have 100amp service. He made no mention that the upstream wires could not handle it. In the Stultz's defense the price came out to be about the same as others were quoting for just 1 charger. My problem is that I don't know what I was buying because something different was delivered and I don't know how much things cost because it was 30% over budget.
Response from the owner
The original quote for the installation was as follows (my prices are listed on the DTE website also ( https://newlook.dteenergy.com/wps/wcm/connect/dte-web/home/service-request/residential/electric/pev/charger-installation ) Look under "Hiring an Electric Contractor " ) : Basic charger installation $750.00, 2nd meter and disconnect installation $350.00, additional wire over 10 feet (40 feet additional) charged at $2.50 per foot totaling $100.00, permit and prep work for 2nd future charger $125.00. All together totaling $1325.00. The wiring from meter to meter is set up to accommodate the amperage required for running 2 meters. I am confused as to why DTE would have said it was 6 awg wire ran from meter to meter because it was 2 awg Aluminum that was ran between. As for the additional charger future work that was quoted at $300 to $400, that would include swapping out the disconnect for a 4 circuit disconnect and running the 2nd line into the garage for the 2nd charger. The prep work is already there in the metering. With regards to the receipt, you paid with credit card. My credit card service (Square) sends a receipt immediately once the transaction is completed and you signed on my phone as well as entered your email address. I attempted to send you duplicate receipts on 4 different occasions at your request to your email.

I reached out to have gas switched to electric for my washer and dryer, he went out and bought the parts and completed the work. After I paid him, the movers would not set up my appliances, I have contacted him for this and he has ignored me. I reached out to another business and they had to go out and get more parts that were missing, which cost me more money. Rude!
Response from the owner
Amanda, I haven't received any calls or messages from you, otherwise i would have been more than happy to help. What exactly were the parts they said were missing? I installed the 14-30 dryer plug on the wall, ran the wire in conduit to the floor joists, through the joists to the breaker panel, installed a piggyback Square D breaker in the panel to make room for the 2 pole 30 amp Square D breaker used for the dryer circuit. If they said something was missing they i would like to know what exactly it was because there isn't anything else to a dryer circuit.
