Worst construction company we used for earthquake repairs in Anchorage. We gave them $3500 as a deposit which they said they would use to go buy the materials and come back and start the work. Two weeks later they finally showed up to start the work! Original bid was $6850, their work was so atrocious they had to tear out the front steps and completely redo them. After assuring us, and a neighbor witness, that the rebuild would not cost us a cent, their finish bid was almost $11,000. We had our attorney write them a letter and send a check for the balance of the original quote. After they received the letter and the check, they came by our house banged on the front door yelled out loud for almost an hour. I called the cops twice, they did not show up for almost an hour, the contractor left after 55 minutes. My wife called the contractor they argued for almost an hour on the phone. She finally gave up and told them, I’ll pay you $2000 if you will just go away and leave us alone. Both of our neighbors had seen the horrible work this construction company did on our steps. The neighbors said they were going to have Twin Home Construction do some work around their house, but after seeing the horrible work they did they said they would not have them step foot on their property. DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!
Response from the owner
Hi Ron, I'm sorry for the way you feel about our company and the work that was completed and especially about the clear misunderstanding of what work was done and charged for, as explained multiple times to you and you wife nothing additional was charged for the staircase rebuild from the original proposal. The lead on the project Chris a very skilled framer and has built hundreds of decks and porches for us had noticed that the landing at the top of the steps was tilted presumably from the earthquake. Though the staircase could of been rebuilt strait the landing was not on the scope of the original proposal when brought to your attention you had asked for it to be replaced and he had informed you of our T&M cost and what the estimated cost would of been, you had agreed to the cost and he proceeded to cut the existing cantilevered joist and replace every part of the landing aswell as rebuild the lap siding post wrap, replace multiple sections of cedar trim, redirect the downspout aswell as many other aspects to completely redo the deck and staircase, even cut the asphalt landing to install gravel to prevent movement in the future, all these changes were made well aware to you. The original bid of $6850 contained many line items besides the staircase including replacing rotten joists and decking on the back porch and resetting some interior doors, what it didn't contain was the additional work you requested and failed to mention is the earthquake damaged sheetrock work and the numerous other addons you requested and knew would be an additional cost when you asked for it, I even had to take a sub off another job to get the drywall patched and textured. I consider myself a very fair contractor since I understand this is a small town and burning even one bridge can have a cascading effect but when the final bill was submitted as opposed to bringing to my attention the issues you had with my invoice you submitted a check for the original proposed amount to your lawyers and failed to include any of the additional line items "you" requested to be completed, your lawyers contacted me and pretty much said "this is all the Stafford's will pay you, if you deposit this check you can not received the rest of the money owed". I've been in business for 14 years and have never had this issues, I asked your lawyers what I should do and they told me to go talk to you and convince you what the additional cost was for, even your lawyers had agreed with me that monies were owed. I went to your home with the check and copy's of the invoice and proposal and you wouldn't even speak to me, I stood on your front porch, technically mine since you had not even paid for the materials and pleaded with you to at least hear me out, you even called the cops on me and I continued to hold my ground. I wont say everything went perfect with the project but we tried very hard to make up for the failings of the company in the beginning and the simple fact that a proposal is that a proposed amount of what the project will be, there are many changes that can occur in the construction process and you were kept very well informed. As far and the quality of work, I would like to see what your referencing, because the dozens of pictures I have of the work completed shows a quality project that we can stand behind. I lost alot of money on this project, you agreed to pay me an additional $2000 to "leave us alone" and I was content with taking the hit since the additional 2k reduced that hit and I assumed we would leave it at that. But this morning this review was brought to my attention painting Twins and the Twins employees as incompetent and untrustworthy. As mentioned before I'm a 2 time war vet and for the last 14 years worked very hard to build trust and a name in this company, your misunderstanding of how proposals work and inability to even ask means your opinion on the matter of my company is null and void in my book. Thank you -Victor(owner, THI)

Wouldn’t use these guys again replaced my windows but they didn’t come with screens? I guess that’s an option, for the contractor, if they want to save a $10 window?.?. It was over ten thousand dollar job!!! I have had several other window jobs done by other companies and twins home construction is the only one who didn’t remove stickers on the windows. Which leaves me on a ladder two stories up with a razor knife removing the stickers and installing new screens. A bunch of clowns at twins home. I’m sure the owner will get on here and blame me or anyone else for the issues I have had. It never seems to be there fault.

As a local realtor, I see a lot of work from a variety of contractors. I come across a lot of Twin's Home Improvment's work. It is always nice, clean and working. I have also had clients purchase homes Twin's has renovated. They have always stood by their work. I recommend them. I see a review below that has a lot of unrelated stress. Out of state owners are at a severe disadvantage and are usually in a position where avoiding short term financial pain, causes permanent financial pain. Do NOT think that having a property manager watching over your single family home will protect you from property problems. There most likely is nothing that any home improvement company could do to fix this level of stress. I wish them the best.
