I called colonial around 2 o'clock in the afternoon for an emergency break-in of a well pump not cutting on. I was explained that emergency calls were a fee of 120$ just for showing up which I thought was reasonable considering they could possibly do a repair same day. I was then explained a plumber once on site would evaluate and give a quote of work to be performed and then go ahead with repairs after PERMISSION from owner was approved. A plumber was able to arrive just 2 hours after I called which I thought was awesome. What wasn't awesome is he went ahead and found the pump to not be primed and performed the work. For those of you who don't know pumps must be filled with water as well as the line running into your well eliminating air in system so pumps can have suction. So The the plumber literally filled the pump with water using a water bottle and had it running in way less than an hour. I was charged a total of 400$ for this! Mind you 120 of this was for the emergency show up, which means 280$ was charged for the unauthorized filling of a pump with water which took less than an hour!! Absolutely crazy!! I've never heard of such pricing for 30 min worth of work. Maybe I should quit my job as a pipe fitter and become a plumber that seems to be where all the money can be made. Would not recommend colonial to anyone strictly due to ridiculous and unauthorized pricing.

      Response from the owner

Hi Blake, I'm glad we were able to respond so quickly to your emergency. It's difficult to go without water in your home. You are correct that we normally give prices before doing any work. In this case, in order to diagnose the problem we had to prime the pump and test the system for leaks. There is no way to price repairs without know what needs to be done. Fortunately, when we primed the pump there were no leaks and the water system was working properly. There were no repairs needed so we just billed for the priming and testing. Hope that helps and makes sense. They should have explained the process to you as they were moving through the procedure.

I am a new customer to Colonial Plumbing in Colonial Heights Virginia and am writing this review of a service call they conducted at my home in Hopewell Virginia on 30 March 2022. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a leak coming from the hot water handle of our shower. I know very little of plumbing and prefer to hire a professional. Not having the need for a plumber I began a web search for local plumber on the web. Wow what a shock, bad reviews on most. Colonial Plumbing came up as being good so I gave them a call. The lady took my call and was both courteous and very professional. Today was appointment day and their plumber showed up early for the appointment. He introduced himself as Tony Brooks and confirmed that I was the customer. He was in a company truck and wearing a company uniform. I explained what was wrong with the shower. I also asked about 2 other plumbing problems and he got right onto business. He had some trouble with the shower handle as it was stuck from rust. He had to leave for over an hour to find a replacement valve stem. He went to 3 different stores to find one that would fit our shower. He then installed it no problem. He took care of the other minor plumbing issues in good order. He asked if he could help with anything else and I said no. He then went to his truck and prepared by bill. That’s when the homeowner starts to cringe. At least I do. He reappeared at my door and I asked if he offered a military or senior discount. He said Colonial has a senior discount and he had applied it already without being asked. He also honored the web coupon for $25 off $100 or more. The bill was reasonable for the 3 hours of time, super effort and parts. The bottom line here is I have found my permanent plumber. Colonial Plumbing from the first call I made to the time the job was completed was outstanding in every area of customer service. They truly deliver professional results. As for Tony, he represents their company in the highest standards of professionalism coupled with a caring attitude and willing to go the extra mile for his customer. If you need plumbing done on time by a professional at a fair price direct your call to Colonial Plumbing in Colonial Heights Va.

Tony Brooks came out and did a very thorough job. It took a lot of effort because the sewer line was clogged up badly. He ensured everything was working properly before he left and provided some valuable advice about getting with the city Utility Department to get a cleanout installed. He was very patient and persistent in accomplishing the job. I appreciate his hard work.

      Response from the owner

Thank you Mr. Ratliff. Tony does a great job and I'm glad he could help you. James
