We lost power early on a Saturday morning and George was there within 30 minutes of our call. He competently diagnosed the problem (which wound up being the power company's repair) and stayed with us to make sure we could explain all the things we needed to get them out quickly for line work. He took the time to explain everything going on in easy to follow expertise. We have used Direct Current before for scheduled work, which is always good, but their emergency response was shining.

If you need a electrician for household job, I would recommend Direct Current. I work with numerous vendors in my day job and George and his staff would top the list. They installed a sub panel for me including a trenched line through the yard. The job was a pleasure; done professionally and on-cost. April made scheduling easy and the work was neat and clean. As they are in the neighborhood, they are the epitome of shopping local, too! If you haven't dealt with a lot of vendors, here are a few recommendations: 1. Be clear what you want in advance. Write it down, with pictures, drawings, or other references. Direct Current will ensure the work it is up to code, but the specifics are up to you. 2. Be prepared to pay. Electricians are expensive and have student loans, continuing education costs, and very high insurance rates. Paying a deposit in advance is customary as the materials are job-specific, and not having to chase unpaid bills after work is complete ensures their administrative costs stay low. 3. Quality work matters, but is rarely seen. You can probably find someone cheaper, but you'll notice the difference with a quality electrician. Work is explained clearly, further work is easier, inspections pass without issue, and you sleep soundly knowing you are protected from fires and short circuits (ask about arc-fault interruptors if this is of particular concern.) 4. Try to remain available. Making the time is difficult but few jobs go as-planned. They can prevent additional costs and keep you happier if you are available for questions. 5. Do not ask them to take shortcuts. Electrical code requirements are complex, specific to the county, if not town, and constantly changing. They are trying to keep us safe and the job to pass inspection. Again, if you need electrical work done, give Direct Current a call and ask for an estimate. They are in high demand, so it may not be same day, but I think you'll be glad you called.

Direct Current's technicians are the best in the DMV. April is also amazing to deal with and makes the whole experience a breeze.
