  Working as an IBEW Inside wireman was the best trade for me. I enjoyed ever job I was on, loved going to different job locations, always new Union Brothers and Sisters to meet. A career where you are constantly challenged to learn new things. It was the greatest gift my father gave his sons.

  horrible. i did a prevailing wage job 1 1/2 years before joining. after i joined, i was given a 400$ bill instead of an 80.00$ initiation and dues bill. the contractor i was working for during the prevailing job got into trouble with the union and everybody was dealt consequences. so instead of being family, i was held responsible for this ridiculous amount. i fought and fought to not have to pay this money, even going before the local 11 president to plead my case. i argued that the union is squandering my career over something i had no control over, and loosing out on the thousands of dollars i would pay into the union for 400.00 because they were mad at someone else. bottom line, joining the union was the worst decision i ever made. even worse than doing drugs, because after i left the union, i was out of work for 7 years, gained 250 lbs, gained diabetes, depression, etc... besides the politics, having my career paralyzed for 7 years and how the ibew did nothing to help me are my reasons for absolute hatred for unions. #brotherhoodmyass
