We've had Nelson Electric technicians out for multiple jobs and they've always delivered the job in a timely manner with quality work. This time we did a much larger project (moving of outlets, installation of new outlets and install of new light fixtures) and once again they delivered excellent work in a timely fashion. I should also mention that their scheduling service is straight forward, they do reliable quotes and their technicians make sure to align with you on the project being performed. We think they are the best electricians in Ames.

We called Nelson for a problem we’ve been having with flickering lights and losing power. We can also hear electrical noises at our breaker box. They sent someone who wouldn’t give my girlfriend a straight answer about anything and didn’t offer any idea of what could be causing our problem. He offered to replace something that was somewhat inexpensive, so we went ahead and did that even though he didn’t seem confident that that would fix our problem. He said if it didn’t fix it to call and ask for someone else. It did not fix it, so we called for someone else the day after. The guy came a few days later and seemed like he at least knew what he was doing more than the first. He replaced something as well, but that didn’t fix our problem either. My girlfriend called back and let them know we were still having this problem and could still hear noises at the electrical box, and we were afraid it could be potentially hazardous. The woman on the phone said she would talk to someone and call us back. It’s been 2 weeks and we still haven’t got a call back. We haven’t got a bill yet, but whatever they charge us will be too much considering not a single thing has gotten better and they can’t return our call.

Hello, Katie. First, we’re sorry it wasn’t a better experience working with us. Your situation was particularly challenging due to the intermittent nature of what you were experiencing. It seemed our timing was always “off” and, as such, the issue was difficult to diagnose. While we did our best to identify and correct the issue, it appears that we could have done more to resolve it. Performs work without letting their clients know, when asked about it they just keep repeating the same thing. It may just be the service manager; impossible to deal with. They don’t think they have to pull permits and follow rules. Completely unprofessional and ridiculous. Waited two weeks to have owner call me and still nothing. Reasonable prices though, just going to add to this review almost A YEAR LATER the owner decides to try and save face…the parts used. “The mast” were not the same size in case anyone is considering what kind of person the owner is. Lying just to make it look better.

Hello, Garrett. Due to the circumstances surrounding the derecho, a permit was not required to replace your bent service mast. We did replace the mast on a like-for-like basis (same pipe size), if there was some confusion surrounding this, we apologize that it wasn't more clear.
