I’m not sure why it’s 2022 and calling Athens Utilities is like it was in 1980. We have been without power for 12 hours now and after calling customer service I have no more info than I did before. She said, MAYBE today…MAYBE tonight. I’m trying to decide whether to go stay with relatives or if it’s being restored soon. That’s it. She couldn’t tell me NOR did she care. Our family is over 30 mins away so we also have NO indication when it does come back on. No notifications. Nothing. This is not rocket science. You should have a way to notify and keep your customers aware of outages and updating them on your progress to restore. If you don’t know how, then just call any other city to find out how they are doing it. Unacceptable.

No care in the world for the customers they have left with power for 35 hours in freezing temperatures. Lightning may have taken out the transformer, or at least that's the story they are sticking with, but it is shear incompetence that has left some customers without power for 35+ hours. Rolling blackouts to share the over-taxed power grid would make things a lot safer then just telling 700 customers to go without any power for days in freezing temps. I think some people could manage to not watch TV tonight so my pipes won't freeze.

I recently reported a gas leak outside of my home where the pipes connect to the meter and go into my house. The tech came out within an hour and verified the leak in two places, one above the meter, and one before. He replaced both faulty o-rings and went on his way after providing very professional and courteous service - great job tech. My problem came with the billing department - who FLATLY REFUSED to provide me any kind of credit. Mind you, the leak was discovered the last day of the billing cycle, and my usage jumped over 70 MCF from the previous month, which was more of a hike than the same period from the previous year, so it's not just because of the cold weather. For a utility to force the customer to pay for their faulty machinery is beyond acceptable. If I could rate them 0 stars, I would.
